Fashionable Flashing: Yea or Nay?

Rihanna was out and about NYC on Sunday with friends and was spotted wearing this sheer top to dinner at Da Silvano in the West Village. Had this been any other occasion, say clubbing downtown, running around the city or even having lunch with friends it would've still been an epic faux pas. When you consider that it was out to dinner at a cozy Italian restaurant on a Sunday, tits out - I say nay. I'm generally all for Rihanna's fashion risk-taking and edgy style but this is a nay, naw, NO. Granted, in a lot of the pics you don't see her full breasts/nipples but with this top, there is a 90% chance of full exposure which I'm sure she was aware of as you can see her covering them in some photos.

I've seen, as I'm sure we all have, many sheer looks on the runways with the models exposed but perhaps because it's the norm for fashion shows it doesn't phase me in that context. In the real life context however, people usually wear suitable undergarments like say, a bra.

What do you think of Rihanna's look? Yea or nay? Would you bare your bosoms for fashion?

Paris Fashion Week: My Favourite Shoes of the Runway

It's sometimes easy to forget that fashion shows are not only about music, themes, atmosphere and garments (as thrilling as those combined elements can be). They're also about the shoes - the final destination of our scrutinizing gaze as each look goes by. The works of art that adorn the feet of these models often grasp my attention much more than any other element of a show and this was particularly true of Paris Fashion Week. As each show went by I started compiling detail shots of the shoes I coveted and I am now sharing them with you. There was a lot of attention to detail with the stitching and adornments on these shoes, and I love the metallics! I must say though that the Hussein Chalayan brogues are my absolute favourite because flats win over heels every time for me. We also need to discuss the creation of a word that means cool x 1000 so those brogues can be accurately represented. However, they are all superb creations. Enjoy!

Things I Love: Neon Bags

Hi my name is Ally, and I am obsessed with these neon bags. For me, this obsession began about a month ago with Proenza Schouler when they shared photos of their neon bags via their Facebook page. It was further cultivated when they started popping up in almost all the street style photos of the blogs I visit daily. All in my subliminal. The last straw was when these showed up on Need Supply, a staple in my fashion diet. I've officially been surrounded. And I need one lest I die having lead an unfulfilled life!

Ok a tad dramatic but, really, these are some beautiful inanimate objects that need to adorn my being.

What's not to love? I will admit that the preponderance of these neon bags has been a bit of off-putting. But I can understand. At the end of the day once something is beautiful and accessible, many will want it, many will get it and many more will snob it because of it's popularity. I would still like to own one. Just because it's beautiful and reminds me of paw paw (which I could never get enough of).

A.

A Day with Dani, the Unintentional Muse

My friend and fellow creative mind Daniella, has become a favourite subject of sorts for me throughout my experimentation with photography (even at the beach). We've been involved in each other's artistic endeavours for a few years now and the experience is usually one for the books - or the occasional art exhibition. Basically, I have a muse.

Ok I don't but I relish saying that because it makes me feel like Karl Lagerfeld.

Anyway, Dani and I recently had some down time consisting of amazing, belt-busting Asian food and a respectable amount of alcohol. We went to Drink!, one of our favourite bars (and probably the most cozy place I could think of to kick back with friends) and walked right into a speed dating night. Yes, it was a bit awkward, so we decided to observe from a reasonable distance. As in, sitting outside. Sitting outdoors also allowed us the opportunity to talk as loudly and candidly as we wanted to. You know that moment when you're talking to someone and the track changes and in that 4 second moment of silence you're SHOUTING something really inappropriate to your friend? Avoided!

Our beers were exceptionally large but absolutely delicious.
